The Future of Retail - Arup

Retail is an increasingly competitive sector with heightened price sensitivity amongst  well-informed, smartphone carrying consumers. It has also become increasingly complex, reflecting a wider range of channels being used by consumers to browse and make purchases. Retailers have to cater to a variety of shoppers including the growing cohort of elderly customers as well as digital natives, the so-called ‘Generation Z’.

This report, from the Foresight, Research and Innovation team at Arup, considers a range of trends that are impacting the sector. The aim is to  help designers, developers and retailers better understand and prepare for the forces shaping the retail environment.

Foresight, Research and Innovation is Arup’s internal think-tank and consultancy which focuses on the future of the built environment and society at large. It helps organisations understand trends, explore new ideas, and radically rethink the future of their businesses.
