The Chamber attended the launch of Transport 21, the new ten-year transport plan, and provided media commentary. The Secretary General of the Department of Transport has undertaken to give a presentation of the plan to the Infrastructure and Transport committees. The Dublin Chamber was represented at the launch of Minister Ivor Calelly’s Clare Street Initiative, promoting demand management strategies for transport in Dublin. A Chamber survey of members’ views on transport in the city received widespread media coverage. The Transport committee received a presentation from Dublin Port on the port’s future needs. The Chamber met with Declan Collier, CEO, Dublin Airport Authority on proposals for the second terminal.

We have issued a joint press release with the Irish Hotels Federation and IBEC urging Government to call on the Government to take whatever steps are necessary to prevent any further delay in the provision of a national conference centre for Dublin. Mary Davis (Special Olympics/St Patrick’s Day Festival) gave a presentation to the Tourism committee.

The Budget Committee met with officials of the Dept of Finance at the Chamber's annual Pre-Budget lunch.

The Waste committee received a presentation from the Waste to Energy Project Office in Dublin City.

On foot of the meeting on State Aids with the Commission in Brussels, the Chamber met with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with regard to the Regional Aid Guidelines.

The Childcare committee is conducting a survey of members’ views in order to prepare a policy position paper. We are awaiting the announcement of the preferred bidder for the National Conference Centre.  The Chamber will be closely following developments to ensure no further slippage in the process occurs.

The Chamber's Infrastructure Committee received a presentation from Anne Counihane, CEO of the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) at their September meeting. She updated the committee on the NDFA's revised role in capital procurement and the development of PPPs. Delays have struck the agreement of the Government's 10-Year Transport Investment Plan.

We received an unprecedented response to our transport survey of members on these delays and on reaction to the DAA’s second terminal proposals, and consequently got widespread media coverage. We have secured a commitment that the Chamber will receive a briefing from the Secretary General of the Dept of Transport on the plan, as soon as its published.

The preferred bidder, Elsam, has been appointed for the Poolbeg Thermal Treatment Plant. The Chamber's Waste Management Committee received a comprehensive presentation from the Waste to Energy Project Office on 5 October.

The Budget Committee received a presentation from Marc Coleman, Irish Times Economics Editor, and has drafted the heads of this year's submission. Final submission is due mid-Oct.

The Childcare committee held its second meeting and has agreed the elements of its paper: employers' perspective, tax, early education, and local authority involvement.

The Chamber President and the Lord Mayor launched the Chamber’s new brand identity on 19 September at a reception in Clare St. The new brand and the background was communicated to members through a special ezine, a redesigned Business Ireland magazine, an upgraded website and a mail shot to all members.
