Gov't Acknowledges Dublin's Unique Role in Future Success of Irish Economy

Feb 02, 2017

Ensuring that Dublin is operating at full speed is the only way of ensuring that Ireland realises its potential, according to Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking following the launch today of a consultation that will lead to the creation of a National Planning Framework for Ireland out to 2040, the Chamber welcomed comments from the Taoiseach and Minister Simon Coveney which recognise the vital role of Dublin in the success of the country.

According to Dublin Chamber CEO Mary Rose Burke: "The Ireland 2040 document sets out 12 main goals that the National Planning Framework must achieve. Integral to successfully meeting these aims is a Dublin region that is firing on all cylinders. The growth of Dublin will complement effective regional development – which the 2040 document correctly recognises."

She added: “The NPF acknowledges that growth is not a zero sum game, where the growth of one region or area is at the expense of another. Instead of proposing balanced regional development, the NPF consultation talks about effective regional development, where the growth of Dublin as a city region is complemented by the growth of other regions. This is the correct approach. Dublin Chamber, on behalf of businesses in the Greater Dublin Region, looks forward to inputting in to the NPF process.”
