Microsoft Jobs a Huge Vote of Confidence in Dublin

Feb 17, 2017

Microsoft's announcement of 600 new jobs is a clear endorsement of Dublin as a great place to do business, according to Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber said the Microsoft announcement capped a bumper jobs week for Dublin, confirming the city’s status as a world-class tech and professional services hub.

A string of big firms have announced the creation of more than 1,500 new jobs in Dublin in recent days, including Indeed (500 jobs), BrowserStack (100), Accenture (300) and now Microsoft (600).

According to Mary Rose Burke, CEO of Dublin Chamber: "These announcements are a massive vote of confidence in Dublin and send a clear message to the world that Ireland is open for business. The commitment of multinationals such as Microsoft and Accenture to growing their presence in Dublin is a signal to other firms who may be considering setting up and/or expanding their operations here. The investment being made by Microsoft in Dublin could have been made in any of the other cities that they are based in around the world. The fact that they have chosen Dublin is testament to what we have to offer."

Dublin Chamber has cautioned that continuing to attract jobs and investment is incumbent upon enhancements and improvements in the Irish offering.

Ms Burke added: “Major global firms are putting their faith and confidence in Ireland’s future. The Government must now do the same. This means ensuring that we have the infrastructure needed to support Dublin’s growth. In light of the opportunities coming our way as a result of Brexit, it is vital that we have an adequate amount of housing that is aligned with a much improved transport system.”
