The Dublin Chamber of Commerce has called on all Chamber members to support the EU Reform Treaty referendum. In the coming debate, it is important to remember that Irish business has, and continues to, benefit from membership of the EU.
“Over the past 15 years, we have had phenomenal success in Ireland, demonstrated by a six-fold increase of exports, a quadrupling of our GDP and overall increase in jobs," said Dublin Chamber President, Margaret Sweeney.
"The EU offers Irish business access to one of the largest single markets in the world for our goods and services. Last year alone over 60% of our service sector exports went to EU countries. It also places Dublin in a strong position for inward investment and jobs as a key gateway into this market.”
“At its heart, the EU Treaty is about making the running of the EU more effective and efficient,” said Gina Quin, Dublin Chamber Chief Executive. “As the European Union has expanded from 6 to 27 countries, it’s critical that the administrative processes and procedures are kept in line with this growth in its membership. The smooth operation of the single market is needed for our future prospects.”
“Therefore, it is important that business brings its voice to the debate on the EU Treaty and reinforces the positive benefits of EU Membership.”
